Some Bigger Fish with Lots of Competition
I'm back at Kleiner Pond to see if any palomino trout remains. I don't catch any, but I do see someone else catch one. The news of the Palominos has spread, and the pond gets really busy, but I manage to hook into some lovely rainbow trout. The key was arriving early to ensure I could get one of the good spots. By the end, this didn't matter much, though, as people ended up fishing from either side of me from only a few feet away.

Finally, a Good Day at the Local, Part 2
As the temperature was just above freezing and the sun was beginning to rise, I arrived to fish the pond closest to my home. I had not succeeded at this pond in months and hoped to turn things around on this trip. It started hot but quickly turned sour. I persisted, and that made all the difference.

Making Do on a Difficult Day
On a cold, blustering day, I set out to try my luck at my new favorite pond, Mariposa. With the wind at my back, I manage to find some bites up close and turn a difficult day into a successful one. These trout were mostly small, but given the weather, I was happy to get whatever was biting.

Monster Rainbow Trout
I Went back to the local pond looking for more palomino trout. I found one on my first cast while still trying to set up my drop shot rig. That was grand enough, but the final trout I hooked into was the largest I've caught this year. It was both gorgeous and massive. While I love catching these rare palominos, a monster rainbow with a lot of fight is just as wonderful for me to hook into. What a grand day.
