Multnomah Falls, Oregon
Multnomah Falls, located in Oregon, is a majestic waterfall with a long and intriguing history. Formed by the Missoula Floods, the falls were once considered sacred by the Multnomah people, who have many stories about its creation. In the early 1800s, the falls were explored by Lewis and Clark, and the surrounding area soon became a popular tourist destination. In 1914, a bridge was built over the falls and a lodge was added in 1925, offering visitors a place to stay and learn about the falls' history. Today, Multnomah Falls is one of Oregon's most popular tourist attractions.
Jump Creek Falls Trail
Jump Creek Falls is a short, less-than-a-mile hike along primarily easy terrain. We visit this location about once a year, mainly so we have an excuse to visit The Orchard House for burgers afterward. However, this time, we have a new adventure buddy joining us.
Meet Asa! She is a 2-year-old Shiba-Inu who we adopted from the Humane Society less than a week ago. She has been doing great and has stolen our hearts. We hope to take her on more adventures, but we are learning what she can do, and this little hike is a significant beginning step.
Asa started out a little timid, and the groups of people and other dogs concerned her. By the time we started making our way out, she had a skip in her step. We are so proud of her and are already planning our next adventure.
Bridalveil Falls Trail
Bridalveil Falls Trail is in the Sawtooth Wilderness in central Idaho. Nearing 9 miles, this there-and-back trail has gorgeous views of a creek, woods, hills, and the inspirational Sawtooth Mountains. After a difficult scramble up a steep incline, hikers are rewarded with a beautiful, small waterfall. The trail is mostly flat except for the scramble to the waterfall. Two water crossings may not be crossable in the early summer during peak melt. Another waterfall, Lady Face Falls, can be seen along the way with a slight detour.
Manoa Falls, O’ahu, Hawaii
Manoa Falls is located in a tropical rainforest. Surrounded by lush greenery in every direction, this tall but narrow waterfall is a beautiful location. With a recently updated trail and adequate parking, it is easy to access and traverse. Amenities like sunscreen, bug spray, and rain ponchos are available at the entrance for purchase, in case you forgot yours.
Goose Creek Falls (2023)
We return to one of our favorite hikes in McCall, Idaho. It is a mostly shaded, easily graded, beautiful hike near Brundage Ski Resort. There is a challenging scramble down to the base of the waterfall, but this can be skipped, especially when the water is really flowing. I highly recommend this hike, especially in the morning when the air is cool and the sun is low.
