Moonlight Excursion on the Oregon Coast Scenic Railroad
We took a quick trip to the Oregon Coast to ride the OCSR on a unique moonlight excursion. With only a handful of dates available, we chose the one when the moon would be closest to full. The ride was longer than the general trip from Garibaldi to Rockaway, stretching past Rockaway to Wheeler. It provided new views and a gorgeous sunset view that made the trip. The ride was pleasant, but things got boring after the sunset. The moon was hidden along the horizon by thick clouds over the ocean, so the only view was inside the train cabin. Still a fun trip, and I would certainly recommend it to others.
Multnomah Falls, Oregon
Multnomah Falls, located in Oregon, is a majestic waterfall with a long and intriguing history. Formed by the Missoula Floods, the falls were once considered sacred by the Multnomah people, who have many stories about its creation. In the early 1800s, the falls were explored by Lewis and Clark, and the surrounding area soon became a popular tourist destination. In 1914, a bridge was built over the falls and a lodge was added in 1925, offering visitors a place to stay and learn about the falls' history. Today, Multnomah Falls is one of Oregon's most popular tourist attractions.
Mogensen Trail (2023)
The second time on this trail, but in a different season. The differences were evident. The trail was much greener, more water was flowing down the falls, and more people were on the trail. We happened to hike on the same day as a major base jumping event, and were even tasked with being impromptu videographers for a marriage proposal from one of the jumpers. It was an awesome hike.
City of Rocks & Castle Rocks Recon
We make a quick dash down to the City of Rocks National Reserve and Castle Rocks State Park. This is a recon mission to get some information and see if it is worth a return trip. Spoiler Alert: It is. We take in the sights briefly, and discover so much that remains to be explored. With some handy information form the visitor center we are already beginning to plan a multi-day stay in this iconic and incredible part of Idaho.
Box Canyon Springs Reserve
Box Canyon Springs is a gorgeous hike through a box canyon along the Snake River just southeast of Wendell, ID. This hike features crystal-clear spring water, waterfalls, and incredible views. On this trip, we take the out-and-back approach. We did not swim, but that will almost always be the case since hiking in wet clothes is not something we enjoy. We hope you enjoy coming along on this adventure with us, and hope you are able to enjoy some adventures of your own.
